When it comes to decorating for fall, I’ve learned that I’m happiest when I keep things simple. I love those beautiful autumn colors, but I still want our home to feel like us—light, classic, a little coastal, and collected rather than completely transformed for the season.

This year, I’m reaching for warm neutrals, soft blues and deep navy, natural textures, touches of brass and gold, cozy throws, pretty candles, and just enough pumpkins and fall foliage to say fall is here.

A Few Things I’m Loving for Fall

Cozy Throws + Pillows
One of the easiest ways to change a room for the season. I love mixing creamy neutrals, dark blue and floral patterns with the things we already have. A quick change of pillow covers makes my couches go from summer to fall in seconds.

Pretty Fall Stems
A few branches of muted fall florals or dried-looking stems in a favorite vase can completely change a room. I especially love them in warm brown, olive, and faded golden tones. I even added a few stems of real dried eucalyptus.

Woven + Natural Textures
Rattan baskets, woven trays, wood accents, and natural textures bring in that cozy fall feeling without having to add traditional fall decorations everywhere.

Classic Pumpkins
I’ll always love a pumpkin, but I tend to gravitate toward the softer side of fall—creamy white, muted green, warm brown, and natural-looking pumpkins mixed in with my everyday decor. I especially love the rattan pumpkins for a coastal look.

Touches of Brass + Gold
Warm metals are so pretty this time of year. A brass candlestick, little gold frame, or antique-inspired accent instantly makes a space feel warmer. I am really loving antique gold frames right now!

Books for Decoration
Add a couple of novels with fall-ish covers for an extra cozy vibe. You’ll be wanting to wrap up in a knit blanket and read all afternoon.

My favorite seasonal decorating tip is to start with what you already love and simply layer the season into it. You don’t have to turn your whole house orange for it to feel like fall. On second thought, please don’t turn it orange! Browns, neutrals, and of course navy is all you need! A cozy throw, a candle burning in the kitchen, a few pretty branches on the table, and pumpkins tucked here and there can be more than enough.
